How do you reach 90% target language with your level one class?

1. Buy a remote presentation device or wireless mouse so you can be anywhere in the room and project your “daily tech guide” on the screen/wall.
2. Script your lessons with either PowerPoint, Google Slides, ActivInspire, SmartNotebook, whatever you can use adroitly.  This means for each activity you make a slide and a transition slide so that students have visual support to your target language instructions.
3. Teach ‘survival phrases’ and transitions with direct instruction.  Use choral responses and partner sharing and spontaneous speech activities in safe groups of two.

I started on this journey with my seventh, eighth, and ninth graders in 2012.  I have refined it with catchy musical transition videos made by some very desperate Venezuelans.  I sell them to support three families – all net proceeds go to them.

Below are examples of some of my lessons.  Most teachers see my six years of refinement and say they can’t create them and keep a balanced home life.

I understand.  I don’t have children of my own and when I started this journey my husband was working in another state Monday – Thursday.

But this is the best teaching ever – it includes so many elements of other paths to teaching and is the best Comprehensible Input – because I have spent over 3 hours per lesson creating the comprehensible input.  The music creates a super path in students’ brains – but this is just my experience – I have neither time nor interest in proving this to others who tell me that my experience isn’t valid.  My goal is to offer my lessons, complete with the musical videos, so that teachers can take my lesson, spend 15 minutes on tweaking it, and teach.

This requires another 2 hours per lesson of refinement. I am building the library of lessons and hope to have them completed this summer.
