While teaching body parts in our Spanish 1 class, Simon says is a natural extension activity.
Students even ask if we are going to play it before we know enough body parts!
Play this intro video before the activity when teaching body parts. Tell students they must all be up and in the right part of the room before the video is over.
When we play, anyone who becomes ‘out’ stands in line with me and becomes a helper to point out who should be out.
This makes the game go faster, keeps all students engaged, and makes the ones who are out early feel important.
This way your students will be trained and you can quickly have them up, play a round, and seated and back to their work.
I like to teach this vocabulary during the first quarter so that the rest of the year we can have a quick stretch in the target language during a class when the students are seated for a long time.
