Alert students to start separating themselves out for the assessment. Share a smile that there is always someone who didn’t realize that there would be an assessment today. Then encourage them to clear their desks with this soothing pre-assessment song increases Total Comprehensible Input (CI) (TCI) a la TPRS® and help Spanish 1 Class stay in the target language, and reach your 90% TL goal even during those challenging transitions.
Build a class tradition of playing this song 2 – 3 times while handing out your assessments and you will be surprised how quickly the students are singing it under their breaths. It is a clever way to calm nerves before an assessment – we usually sing it about 3 times as I hand out the papers. (With the clicker it is easy to start it over as I hand out papers.)
It prompts students to clear their desks and to take a pencil. While it is brief about 20+ seconds, it appeals to students probablly because the professional singer, a native speaker living in South America, turned 20 while composing it. I think students enjoy the original, authentic music.
It also encourages positive self-talk about “bring on the assessment because I’ve prepared.”
Students quickly start singing along to this simple but pretty song.

Use these three steps to take charge of your transitions.
1. Make a slide for each activity in today’s lesson.
2. Insert one of my brief 50+ transition videos before the slide and train your students to watch the video in Spanish. Soon they are imitating the voice over or else singing the song. Do this every day and when you are observed by your administrators they will note your seamless transitions.
3. Buy a remote presentation device or wireless mouse and click to the next slide from any part of the room so you can stand close to students who struggle to behave.
